The Concrete Truck 1

One day a big concrete mixer
truck came to school and we
watched them pour cement
for our new paths.

The Concrete Truck 2

It was cool watching the men pour the concrete down the chute into the wheelbarrow.

The Concrete Truck 3

The man poured the concrete from the wheelbarrow into the path.

The Concrete Truck 4

A little fence blocked the concrete from running away, and made
the sides of the path straight.

The Concrete Truck 5

They poured the concrete
on the path, and smoothed
it out with a rake and a broom.

Then they picked up a big piece of wood,
and made it smooth by moving it back
and forwards. Now we can walk
on our new path.

Floating Boats

This week we have been designing and building floating boats. We had to think about suitable materials to use, and then design one that we could carry our plastic teddies on. We had a few problems with some, but thought of how we could fix them, and today we tested them out, and reflected on what we had learned from this challenge. All of our boats carried 10 teddies, and we showed them off at our school assembly.

Tasman Cross country

We have had a busy start to term 2, and welcomed our teacher trainee, Miss Cameron to our classroom. She worked with us for the first 5 weeks of this term, and know that we learned lots of things from her, and hope that she learned lots with us too.

We were very excited to have a visit from Harold the giraffe in the Life Education caravan. We learned about how our bodies, and many other things, need air to live; and also about how the air goes into our lungs through our nose and mouth, down our trachea, and all around our bodies in the blood, to give us lots of energy for learning and playing. We also thought about how dirty or polluted air will harm us.

We also ran in our school cross country at Kina domain on Monday 23rd, and are looking forward to going to Dovedale School on June 17th to run with our friends from the other schools in the Moutere Hills cluster. We will tell you about these another day.

We were helped by the older students who ran along with us as our buddies.

Alfie is a great little runner, anf flew around the course. Great style Alfie!

Sam managed to leave his buddy behind.

We have been learning about eating healthy food, and so we enjoyed a healthy lunch with many of our parents last week. We made some sandwiches, some sushi, and some fruit kebabs and vege sticks. Some parents helped us, and others brought some food to share as well. We had lots of food from the 'eat lots' part of the food pyramid, and some from the 'eat some' part, and also had a little treat of marshmallows on our fruit kebabs.

The food looked and tasted wonderful, and some children from the other rooms were keen to join us too so we shared our leftovers with them.
